GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward
Stefan Miklakos scored twice, including the overtime game-winner, to lift the Knights past visiting Williams, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Ira S. Wilson Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Williams took a 1-0 lead early in the first period, scoring just 2:54 into the game. The Knights outshot the Ephs, 15-12, in the opening frame but still trailed at the first intermission.
- In the second period with the Knights on the penalty kill, Miklakos snatched up a neutral-ice takeaway and drove it the other way, beating the goalie over the shoulder on the near post to tie the game, 1-1, with a short-handed goal.
- Just under three minutes later, Peter Morgan added a power play goal to give the Knights the lead with 3:36 to play in the second period. Dakota Zarudny fired a shot from the point that ricocheted off traffic in front to Morgan, who buried a shot from a short angle.
- In the third period, junior forward Mitch Machlitt tallied his first goal in a Geneseo sweater to give the Knights a 3-2 lead with 9:32 left to play but Williams tied the game before the end of regulation to force overtime.
- In the extra period, Machlitt forced a turnover behind the Williams net and slid it in front for Miklakos, who finished off the game-winner with a quick wrister.
