Men's Ice Hockey Settles For Draw Against Amherst

Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo Men's Ice Hockey team took a 3-0 first period lead but had to settle for a draw against Amherst, 3-3, on Saturday afternoon at Ira S. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just 1:49 into the game, first-year forward Alex Dameski tallied his first-career collegiate goal, finishing off a shot from the slot as Stefan Miklakos and Tyson Gilmour added assists on the play.
  • The Knights added to their lead later in the period, taking a 2-0 lead with 12:02 to play in the first. Mitch Machlitt wrestled the puck out from the boards and slipped it to Gilmour who found Miklakos in front for the score.
  • Domenic Garozzo added a power play goal with just under five minutes to play in the period. Peter Morgan and Gilmour connected with a pair of quick passes to find Garozzo for an open net on the back post, making it 3-0 before the first intermission.
  • The Knights and Mammoths each tallied nine second period shots, but Amherst tallied a quick transition score to make it 3-1 just before the second intermission.
  • Amherst added a pair of goals in the third period to level the score and force overtime. In the extra period, the Knights' best look at the game-winner came when Nathan Poolman beat a defender down the left side and cut in front for a shot from close range but was turned away.
  •  Adam Harris made three saves and helped the Knights to kill off an Amherst power play in the overtime period to preserve the draw.
