Women's Soccer Holds On For SUNYAC Semifinal Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior forward Lindsay Wright scored a pair of goals and added an assist on the game-winner to lead the Knights past New Paltz, 3-2, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Nicole Bell was fouled from behind in the box, earning a penalty kick. Wright stepped up to the spot and finished with a clinical strike to the right side netting.
  • Wright added her second goal later in the half, receiving a long pass from first-year forward Abby Foster just outside of the 18-yard box. Wright cut past a New Paltz defender and fired a lofted shot over the goalkeeper and in to make it 2-0.
  • In the second half, New Paltz cut into the lead with a goal in the 54th minute to make it 2-1, but the Knights responded in the 68th minute with a quick counter. Lindsay Wright found Liv Raucci with a through ball down the right flank. Raucci cut back to the center and fired a left-footed shot past the charging goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
  • The Hawks scored in the 74th minute to draw within a goal, 3-2, with just over 15 minutes to play but Angel Bennett and the Knights defense held up to earn the victory.

  • The Knights earn their sixth-consecutive SUNYAC Tournament Final berth, having made the conference championship game every year since 2016. Geneseo won the SUNYAC title in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
