GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team opened up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Wednesday night with a 5-1 victory over Morrisville. Junior forward
Zach Rehbaum led the Knights to the road victory with two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Seven minutes into the action, Rehbaum put Geneseo in the lead with an unassisted short-handed goal. The Knights kept the momentum going and two minutes later, sophomore forward Domenic Garozzo tacked on the second goal to make it a 2-0 advantage.
- Geneseo capped off an impressive first period of action by scoring twice in a span of twenty seconds. Sophomore forward Stefan Miklakos scored with 3:46 left to play, and then junior forward Trent DeNuccio scored exactly twenty seconds later to make it a 4-0 lead after the opening period.
- Rehbaum netted his second goal of the game in the second period, and the Knights cruised to a 5-1 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian recorded his third victory of the season with 22 saves in goal.
- Geneseo's offense continued to see an even spread, with Garozzo, Miklakos, and Denuccio all recording their first goals of the season. Rehbaum became the first Knight to two goals on the season with his pair of goals.
- Geneseo has now won 10-consecutive matchups against the Mustangs, dating back to an 8-1 victory on January 28, 2017.
