Men's Ice Hockey Skates to Draw at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Ice Hockey team battled back from a first period deficit to gain a lead in the third, but settled for a 2-2 draw against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Plattsburgh on Saturday night at Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal late in the third period but the Knights answered less than a minute after intermission. Matthew Doran buried a power play goal just 52 seconds into the second period to level the score, 1-1.
  • Just under five minutes into the third period, sophomore forward Peter Morgan gave the Knights the lead with his second goal in as many games to make it 2-1 with 15:32 to play.
  • In the final minute, Plattsburgh pulled their goalie for an extra skater. The Cardinals managed the game-tying goal with just 24 seconds remaining to force overtime.
  • In the extra period, the Knights tallied three shots on goal. Their best look came with just seconds remaining as senior forward Justin Cmunt ripped a shot on the power play, but it was saved as the Cardinals escaped with the draw.

QUICK FACTS
  • Morgan scored his third goal of the season, scoring in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
  • Doran notched his second power play goal of the year, tying Domenic Garozzo for the team lead.
  • Matt Petizian made a career-high 40 saves and earned the draw in net.
