POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward
Domenic Garozzo tallied his second-career hat trick to lead the Knights past the host Bears, 7-1, on Friday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights jumped out to an early lead as Jared Thomas netted a goal off assists from Tommy Winn and Bryce DeFazio just 3:36 into the game. Despite outshooting the Bears, 17-7, in the first period Geneseo held just a 1-0 lead entering the first intermission.
- Just 48 seconds into the second period, Garozzo extended the lead with his first goal of the night. Under two minutes later, Peter Morgan tacked on a goal to make it 3-0.
- Potsdam tallied its only goal of the night with 11:34 to play in the second period, but Garozzo added a power play goal before the end of the second frame as the Knights skated into the second intermission leading, 4-1.
- In the third period, Geneseo capitalized on the power play as Stefan Miklakos, Justin Cmunt and Garozzo each tallied a power play goal as the Knights skated to a 7-1 win.
QUICK FACTS
- Garozzo tallied four points with three goals and an assist. It marked his second-career hat trick and his first of the season after scoring three goals at Plattsburgh on Jan. 28, 2022 last season.
- Peter Morgan added four points on a goal and three assists, his second-career three-assist game.
- Justin Cmunt added a goal and an assist as 11 Knights finished with at least one point on the evening.
