Wright's Late Game-Winner Lifts Knights To 1-0 Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team pulled out a thrilling 1-0 victory at New Paltz on Saturday afternoon behind senior forward Lindsay Wright's goal in the 85th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out firing, registering two shots in the first five minutes. Wright put a shot on goal in the 5th minute to the top right corner, but a save from the Hawks goalkeeper kept the game scoreless.
  • The Knights went on to out-shoot New Paltz 8-4 in the first half, with four shots reaching target compared to just one from the Hawks.
  • The second half saw more back-and-forth play from the SUNYAC foes, as both teams tallied five shots in the final 45 minutes.
  • In the 85th minute, senior defender Ashleigh Scheidweiler played a through ball to Wright, who sneaked right past the back line of New Paltz and beat the goalie one-on-one to score the game-winner.
QUICK FACTS
  • Wright's goal marked her fifth of the season, and second game-winner in a 1-0 game with the previous coming against Fredonia on Sep. 28.
  • Senior goalkeeper Angel Bennet recorded two saves in the win and tallied her seventh shutout of the season.
  • Geneseo has now won nine-consecutive matchups against the Hawks.
