Field Hockey Dominant at Houghton to Earn 8-0 Victory

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Maggie Phipps distributed a team-high three assists as the Knights earned an 8-0 victory over host Houghton on Wednesday evening at Burke Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game when Phipps found first-year forward Isabel Reitano-Stayer for a goal. 
  • Reitano-Stayer tallied her second on an assist from Katrina Clare two minutes into the second period. Just over a minute later, Sam Lewis found the cage to make it 3-0. Grace Olczak added her sixth score of the season as the Knights took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • In the third period, Sydney Carnival, Lewis and Emily Cortese each tallied to make it 7-0. 
  • First-year midfielder Natalie Riedy notched her first collegiate goal in the fourth quarter as the Knights earned the 8-0 victory.

QUICK FACTS 
  • Geneseo outshot Houghton, 17-2, including 15 shots on goal, and allowed just three penalty corners while registering nine offensively. 
  • Lewis finished with a team-high five points with two goals and an assist. 
  • Sarah Quinlan earned the goalkeeping win without recording a save in three quarter. Lilly Spitz made one save in the fourth quarter as the Knights combined for their program-record sixth-straight shutout. 
  • Six of the Knights' eight goals were scored by first-year players.

Geneseo (9-2) will return to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday when they face off with New Paltz at College Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
