Men's Ice Hockey Shuts Out Neumann In Season Opener

Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Knights earned the shutout for a 3-0 victory over visiting Neumann in the 2022-23 season opener on Friday night at Ira S. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo outshot Neumann, 15-10, in the first period but it took the hosts until the 17:48 mark to break the scoreless tie. Sophomore forward Peter Morgan dropped the puck to first-year defenseman Dakota Zarudny who broke the down the defense, skating the puck to the crease before sliding it across to senior forward Tyson Gilmour for the one-timer from point blank range, making it 1-0.
  • In the second period, Morgan added a goal of his own careening the puck off a Neumann defender and past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 with 16:00 to play in the second frame.
  • Just 1:16 later, senior forward Justin Cmunt added a tally to make it 3-0. Junior defender Nathan Poolman found sophomore forward Cooper Fensterstock who set up Cmunt in front of the crease for the short-range score.
