POTSDAM, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer team earned a berth to the postseason, locking up a trip to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament with a 3-0 victory over host Potsdam on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the eighth minute, senior forward Liam Mulderig connected with Lewandowski who placed the ball in the back of the net to give Geneseo an early 1-0 lead.
- The Bears outshot the Knights, 6-5, in the first half but Vincent Maronski and the Geneseo defense held onto the one-goal lead into the halftime break.
- In the second half, sophomore defender Joe Vogt found first-year midfielder Dylan Thody for a score, extending the lead to 2-0 in the 55th minute.
- Late in the game, senior forward Owen Frank added an insurance goal as Vasion Sinjari earned the assist on the play, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead with just over six minutes to go.
QUICK FACTS
- Lewandowski scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season, while Thody tallied his second of the season and Frank notched his first.
- Mulderig recorded his second assist of the year while Vogt notched his first of the season and Sinjari added his third this campaign.
- Vincent Maronski finished with the victory in net, tallying five saves to preserve the clean sheet, his second-straight shutout in net.
- The Knights reach the postseason for the second-consecutive season, earning the fifth seed in the SUNYAC Tournament with 12 points at 3-3-3 in conference play.
