GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward
Maggie Phipps netted two goals as the Knights shut out Oswego for a 3-0 victory, clinching the top seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament later this season. With the top seed, the Knights earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, beginning with the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights and Lakers played evenly through most of the first quarter, until senior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant fired a driven pass into the offensive circle where Phipps one-touched the ball past the Oswego goalkeeper and into the cage, giving Geneseo a 1-0 lead.
- Phipps added on in the second quarter, finishing off a goal off a scramble in front of the cage after a penalty corner. Junior forward Katrina Clare earned the assist on the play.
- Later in the frame, Sturdevant beat a defender down the right side and into the circle where she played a centering pass to Clare in front for a goal, extending the Geneseo lead to 3-0.
- The Geneseo defense made up of Olivia Hernick, Lauren Briody, Olivia Vinciguerra and Hailey Roethel limited the Lakers to just two shots while Sarah Quinlan made one save to preserve the shutout.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo recorded 17 shots with 16 on frame, and tallied nine penalty corners without conceding any to the Lakers.
- Quinlan posted her fifth shutout of the season and her eighth career shutout, moving her into a tie for third all-time in Geneseo program history.
- Phipps tallied her eighth and ninth goal of the season, recording her third multi-goal game of the year.
- Clare notched tallied her ninth goal of the season as well while Sturdevant recorded her third and fourth assist of the season.

Geneseo (13-2, 5-0 SUNYAC) will travel to face SUNYAC rival Brockport on Wednesday, Oct. 26 with game time scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
