BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team pulled out a close four-set win at Buffalo St. on Friday evening, winning with a score of 25-13, 24-26, 25-17, 30-28.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights dominated early on in the match, jumping ahead 10-2 in the opening set with senior libero Emily Haber running six-straight points at the service line. Geneseo went on to lead by as many as 14 points before clinching the 25-13 victory.
- Geneseo took an early advantage in the second set and led by eight points at 15-7, but Buffalo St. launched a comeback and ended up pulling out a 26-24 win in the second set to even up the match.
- Trailing 13-12 in the third set, the Knights offense caught fire as they won six-consecutive points off five kills and a block. Senior middle blocker Jackie Borland recorded three of the five kills as well as the block. Geneseo used the momentum to earn a 25-17 third-set victory.
- In a hard-fought fourth set, the Knights managed to hold off three set points from the Bengals. Freshman opposite Sommer Madigan then closed out the match at 30-28 with a kill.
QUICK FACTS
- Haber put up an impressive performance for the Geneseo defense, tallying a match-high 40 digs. The mark is good enough for second all-time in program history for a four-set match.
- Offensively, Borland put up a .500 hitting percentage with 11 kills and no errors. Junior outside hitter Linda Rossi recorded a match-high 17 kills.
- Sophomore setter Jenna Garvey dished out 29 assists, while Allie Driesen and Carolyn Mack combined for 22.
