Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Earns Vital Road Victory at Buffalo State, 2-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo fifth-year forward Nicole Bell tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the first half as the Knights defeated host Buffalo State, 2-0, on Wednesday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the 17th minute, senior defender Faye Higgins fired a corner kick into the box where Bell connected with a header, nodding it past the Bengals' goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
  • Geneseo outshot Buffalo State, 11-0, in the first half, including eight shots on goal, but managed just the one tally as they took the slim lead into the halftime break.
  • The Knights added onto their lead in the second half when fifth-year midfielder Hannah Sullivan lofted a pass over the defense, freeing up senior forward McKinley Skala who timed her run perfectly. Skala finished with a low shot past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 with just over 28 minutes to play.
  • Senior goalkeeper Angel Bennett kept Buffalo State off the board, making three second half saves as the Knights earned the win.

QUICK FACTS

  • Bell tallied her third goal of the season and her second game-winner of the year while Skala notched her fourth goal of the campaign.
  • Sullivan tallied her team-leading sixth assist of the year, the 30th of her career. She becomes just the third Knight to record 30 career assists in program history, joining Betsy Balling '94 and Diane Stanitski '89.

Geneseo will return home on Saturday, Oct. 22 to face Potsdam in the regular season finale, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
