Women's Soccer Falls At Home To Cortland, 2-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team took on Cortland Saturday afternoon at College Stadium in a rematch of last years SUNYAC Championship game, and the Knights couldn't repeat their winning performance from last fall and fell by a score of 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo came out aggressive on offense, tallying five shots in the first 20 minutes compared to just one from the Red Dragons. In the 19th minute, graduate student Hannah Sullivan ripped a shot from just outside the box that caused the Cortland goalkeeper to make a leaping save to keep the score at 0-0.
  • The Red Dragons controlled the majority of the final 20 minutes of the first half, as they ended up out-shooting Geneseo 6-5 in the half, but the teams entered the locker rooms with a 0-0 tie.
  • The Knights struck first in the second half, with senior forward Lindsay Wright taking a pass from Nicole Bell and scoring from just outside the box to the top left corner of the goal in the 56th minute.
  • Cortland had the answer for Geneseo's goal, as they scored in the 67th and 80th minute to secure the 2-1 victory.

QUICK FACTS
  • Wright tallied her seventh goal of the season, good enough for second-best in the conference.
  • The Knights finished the game with a 13-10 shot advantage, as well as a 7-1 mark on corner kicks taken.
  • Geneseo holds a 5-3-2 record over the Red Dragons in the last 10 matchups.
