Men's Soccer Ties Brockport Off Lewandowski's Second-Half Goal

?GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 tie with visiting Brockport in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on Wednesday night at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out aggressive early, and Brockport saw a great opportunity to get on the board first with a free kick in the 10th minute, but an impressive diving save by sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Maronski, Jr. kept the game scoreless.
  • Geneseo fought hard throughout the half, but Brockport was able to convert a penalty kick in the 36th minute to take the lead, 1-0.
  • Senior forward Tyler Lewandowski was able to tie the game up at the 78th minute, as he volleyed a clear attempt from Brockport in the box and scorched it past the Golden Eagles goalkeeper in the top right corner.
  • Geneseo played the final ten minutes up one player, as Brockport received a red card, however they were unable to take the lead and left the game with a 1-1 tie. 
QUICK FACTS
  • Maronski started in goal for the Knights and made two saves for the team. 
  • Lewandowski's goal marked his eighth of the season, which also leads the SUNYAC.
  • Geneseo totaled twenty-two shots and recorded eight corner kicks while Brockport shot seven times and took five corner kicks. 
  • The Knights snapped a six-game SUNYAC win-streak by the Golden Eagles, and moved to 1-2-3 in conference play for a total of six points.
