No. 2 Men's Ice Hockey Tops Lebanon Valley Behind Morgan's First Career Hat Trick

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Peter Morgan scored his first career hat trick to lead the Knights to an 8-1 victory over visiting Lebanon Valley on Friday afternoon at the Ira S. Wilson Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo opened the scoring in the first period when sophomore defenseman Bryce DeFazio tallied his first-career goal, beating the goaltender with a wrister from the left side to make it 1-0. Just over three minutes later, Morgan scored his first of the game on a power play to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. 
  • Lebanon Valley responded with a power play goal to cut the Geneseo advantage in half, but junior forward Justin Cmunt scored his team-high 13th goal of the season to make it 3-1 before the first intermission. 
  • Morgan tallied two goals in the second period, extending the Knights' lead to 5-1 with just under 10:00 to play in the frame. 
  • Seniro forward Brendan Miller, sophomore forward Greg Koutsomitis and first-year forward Andrew Bruno each tallied goals in the final period to extend the Geneseo lead. For Bruno, the goal marked his first career tally. 

QUICK FACTS

  • Junior goaltender Matt Petizian earned the win in net with 14 saves over two periods while junior goalie Christian Roth made a career-high eight saves and kept a spotless net in the third period. 
  • Morgan finished with a career-high five points, tallying three goals and two assists. It marked his third-career multi-goal game and fifth-career multi-assist contest. 
  • Senior defenseman Matthew Doran finished with a team-high three assists while senior forward Levi Wunder and senior defenseman Chris Perna tallied two assists apiece. 
  • Head Coach Chris Schultz '97 earned his 250th career coaching win. At 250-119-28, Schultz is 12th among active men's ice hockey coaches across all NCAA divisions in winning percentage (.665).

The Knights (14-1-1) will immediately board a bus and travel to Williamstown, Mass. to take on the Williams Ephs on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
