Box Score UTICA, N.Y. - After earning the top spot in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll for the third consecutive week, the SUNY Geneseo ice hockey team took out UMass Boston 6-2 in the first round of the Utica Thanksgiving Showcase.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights surrended the first goal of the game, but didn't trail for long as senior forward Dan Bosio evened the score with a goal in the 11th minute of action off an assist from senior forward Henry Cleghorn.
- Geneseo and UMass Boston entered the second period tied at 1-1, but the Knights came out of the gates hot and looking to create a lead for themselves.
- First-year forward Peter Morgan put the Knights ahead early in the second period with a goal assisted by first-year forward Domenic Garozzo and junior forward Bryan Zurowski. Less than 40 seconds later, Geneseo extended its lead off the stick of junior forward Justin Cmunt.
- Entering the third period with a two goal advantage, the Knights didn't leave any room for a comeback as Garozzo scored 47 seconds into the period and then a minute later junior forward Tyson Gilmour netted a short-handed goal to make it a 5-1 lead. Morgan capped off the scoring with a power play goal assisted by Gilmour and senior defender Chris Perna.

- With two goals and one assist in tonight's game, reigning SUNYAC athlete of the week Peter Morgan took over the team-lead in points on the season with 15.
- Junior goalkeeper Matt Petizian earned his fourth win of the year in goal, tallying a season-high 32 saves.
