Men's Basketball Falls to Host Oneonta in SUNYAC Quarterfinals

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Michael Gannon scored 18 points as the Knights fell to host Oneonta, 81-57, in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oneonta jumped out to a 10-0 lead but sophomore guard Elijah Wingfield hit a three to put the Knights on the board at the 14:29 mark. 
  • The Red Dragons rebuilt their lead, but the Knights trimmed it down to three points, 18-15, with 7:22 to play in the first half. Oneonta closed the half on a 16-10 run to take a 34-25 lead into the halftime break. 
  • The Knights drew within six points, 40-34, when junior forward Alex Merhige drilled a three with just over 15:00 remaining, but Oneonta outscored Geneseo, 41-20 the rest of the way to earn the victory. 
QUICK FACTS
  • Geneseo made its seventh playoff appearance in the past eight years.
  • Merhige finished with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds to go with three assists and three blocks. 
  • The Knights graduate senior guard Terence Rogers and senior forward Sean Crowley, but return a large nucleus, including four starters, for the 2020-21 campaign. 
  • Oneonta will advance to the SUNYAC Semifinals to face second-seeded Potsdam on Friday at top-seeded Brockport.
