Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Alex Merhige scored a career high 22 points en route to a 78-62 Geneseo victory over the Buffalo State Bengals on Tuesday night at Schrader Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo started the game on a 10-2 run, paced by sophomore guard Michael Gannon with five of the Knights' first 10 points. The Knights extended their lead to 30-11 with 6:34 left in the first half after Gannon buried a triple.
- Geneseo took a 43-23 lead into the half with Gannon and Merhige both scoring in double figures, 15 and 10 points, respectively.
- Merhige scored seven-straight points in the second half for the Knights, starting at the 13:57 mark with an and-one layup.
- The Bengals reduced the Geneseo lead down to 15 points, 53-38, with 9:26 remaining. Geneseo quickly followed with a layup by first-year guard Aaron Davis and a three-pointer by Gannon.
- Junior forward Justin Leonard grabbed a huge rebound and followed it up with a right-handed hook shot with 4:44 left in the game to extend Geneseo's lead to 22 as the Knights held on to earn the conference victory.
