Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard Terrance Nichols scored the Knights' final six points as the squad edged Brockport, 77-76, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play Saturday at Schrader Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brockport opened a 15-6 lead in the first eight minutes, but the Knights drew back to within two points when sophomore forward Alex Merhige sank a pair of free throws.
- The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 10, their largest of the game, with 5:28 to go, but the Knights cut the lead to seven points at the halftime break, trailing 36-29.
- The Knights remained within 10 points for the remainder of the second half, but trailed by nine, 73-64, with 2:23 remaining.
- A Nichols three followed by a jumper by sophomore forward Joseph Harclerode III cut the lead to four points with 1:30 to go.
- Trailing by five with 25 seconds to go, Nichols drained a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 76-73. First-year guard Michael Gannon picked off a steal and Nichols drained a game-tying three with 12 seconds to play.
- On the Golden Eagles' final possession, the Knights got another stop and Nichols was fouled as he secured the rebound. With 0.9 seconds remaining, Nichols drained the game-winning free throw to give Geneseo the win.
QUICK FACTS
- Nichols finished with a team-high 25 points while senior guard Zack Panebianco scored 13 and Merhige netted 11 with a team-high 11 rebounds with three blocks.
- The Knights were whistled for 28 personal fouls while Brockport was called for 31 personal fouls, for 59 altogether.
- Geneseo finished 24-for-37 from the free throw line while Brockport shot just 14-for-29 from the charity stripe.
