Men's Basketball Takes Down Potsdam, 80-65, For First SUNYAC Win of the Year

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year guard Michael Gannon scored a career-high 19 points and pulled a career-best 14 rebounds as the Knights took down State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Potsdam, 80-65, at Schrader Gymnasium on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo held an advantage for the majority of the first half and extended their lead to as many as seven points when junior guard Terrance Nichols converted a three-point play with 9:59 remaining in the half. 
  • Potsdam responded with a 10-2 run, taking the lead, 24-23, on a layup with 5:27 remaining in the first half. The Knights regained their edge with four-consecutive foul shots with 3:42 remaining and went into the half leading, 31-29.
  • Geneseo never trailed in the second half, growing the margin to as large as 21 points. Senior guard Zack Panebianco scored all 14 of his points in the second half to prop up the Knights as they held off Potsdam for their first conference win of the season.

  • Geneseo's 49 second-half points were the most they have scored in a half this season.
  • The Knights shot a season-best 20-for-22 (90.9%) from the charity stripe and went 28-for-59 (47.5%) from the floor. 
  • Geneseo won the rebounding battle, 49-29, and limited Potsdam to just six offensive rebounds.
  • Junior guard Terence Rogers recorded seven points and a career-high nine assists while Gannon, sophomore forward Alex Merhige and senior forward Jack Manke each swatted a pair of shots.

The Knights return to action on Saturday when they host SUNYAC rival No. 10 Plattsburgh, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
