No. 5 Men's Ice Hockey Defeats King's (Pa.), 10-0, In Season Opener

Box Score

PITTSTON, Pa. – SUNY Geneseo first-year Brendan Miller notched two goals in his collegiate debut to lead the No. 5 Knights to a 10-0 victory at King's (Pa.), Friday, in the season-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo got on the board after first-year defenseman Chris Perna centered a pass from the right wing to senior forward Andrew Romano, who scored on a wrist shot from the top of the slot with 13:35 on the first-period clock.
  • Romano intercepted a pass at the top of the Knights zone and flipped the puck to the red line where a streaking Miller got behind the Monarch defense to beat the goalie with a wrist shot inside the left post at 9:23 for his first collegiate goal.
  • Senior forward Anthony Marra scored off a rebound in front of a crowded King's goal with 8:32 on the clock to put the Knights on top, 3-0, at the first intermission.
  • Senior forward Joe Serpico dropped a pass along the right boards to sophomore forward Gordon Helmuth, who circled around to score on a long shot from the top-right corner of the Monarch zone 2:21 into the second period.
  • Miller took a short pass from Romano at the top of the Kings' zone and fought through two defenders to score on a short shot at 14:21.
  • Less than a minute later, Serpico scored from close range during a rush off a feed from Helmuth that made it a 6-0 Geneseo edge at 13:41.
  • Gordon notched a short-handed tally with 23 seconds on the clock. Campion dug a puck out from behind the King's goal and sent a puck around the right boards to Serpico at the red line to create a two-on-one opportunity finished by senior forward Arthur Gordon for a 7-0 lead at the second intermission.
  • In the third period, senior forward Conlan Keenan took a pass from senior defenseman Mitch Ferguson on the left wing and scored on a wrist shot at 15:23 before senior forward Tyson Empey scored on a wrist shot from the left wing at 14:14.
