No. 4 Men's Ice Hockey Slips To No. 6 Hobart, 3-2

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forwards Connor Anthoine and Trevor Hills each notched a goal, but it was No. 6 Hobart holding on for a 3-2 victory over the No. 4 Knights, Tuesday, in men's ice hockey action.

The Statesmen (12-2-3) did all their damage in the first period, led by a pair of goals from senior forward Bobby Sokol. With only nine seconds elapsed, Sokol finished a cross from junior forward Tyler Wolf inside the left post. Then, with 7:38 on the clock, it was sophomore forward Brandon Bistodeau tipping a shot by Tanner Shaw from the top of the right face-off circle past Knights' sophomore goalie Devin McDonald from in front of the crease. Sokol found the net again after stuffing a cross-ice feed from sophomore defenseman Tanner Shaw inside a wide-open left post with 2:42 on the clock for what proved to be the deciding tally.

Geneseo (12-3-3) scored twice in just over a two-minute span early in the second period. First-year forward Conlan Keenan collected a loose puck in front of the Hobart crease and had two shots stuffed off the pads of junior goalie Frank Oplinger. However, Anthoine was able to tuck a shot inside the left post to finish the scramble with 14:59 remaining in the period.

Hills was on the receiving end of some nice cross-ice passing from senior forwards Stephen Collins and Jack Ceglarski, flicking a quick shot inside the left post to make it a one-goal game with 12:51 to play.

The Knights couldn't find the equalizer the rest of the way as their seven-game unbeaten streak came to a close. Geneseo finished the third period with a 13-3 advantage in shots, but it was Hobart fighting off two Geneseo power plays down the stretch, including a 5-on-3 attempt for over a minute, to remain unbeaten in their last nine outings.

Oplinger was credited with 38 saves, while McDonald ended the evening with 30 stops.

Geneseo returns to SUNYAC play with a pair of games opposite Morrisville later this week, hitting the road on Friday before returning home on Saturday. Both games are slated for 7:00 p.m. face-offs.
