Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard John Decker totaled 22 points and eight assists while junior guard Justin Ringen added 21 points and five assists to lead the Knights to a 77-63 victory at New Paltz, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action.
Fifteen New Paltz (4-17, 3-12 SUNYAC) turnovers yielded 17 Geneseo (15-6, 9-5 SUNYAC) points while the Knights also converted 14-of-15 free throw attempts on the evening.
A Ringen three-pointer at 16:46 started a 16-7 Geneseo run that saw the Knights build a 24-15 lead at 9:18.
Geneseo led, 28-18, with 4:37 on the clock, but the Hawks rode an 11-3 outburst to pull within three, 31-29, with at 2:16 remaining before the Knights headed to the halftime locker room with a 36-32 lead.
In the second half, a Decker three-pointer staked the Knights to a 47-35 lead with 16:49 on the clock, but New Paltz used a 17-5 run to knot the game, 52-52, with 9:38 remaining.
However, it was the Knights scoring 13-unanswerd points, including five by sophomore forward Jordi Menkhorst, as the visitors reclaimed a 65-52 edge with 4:21 remaining that proved insurmountable.
Menkhorst and senior guard Kevin Zabransky each finished the game with 10 points for Geneseo.
The Knights play theri final road game of the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Oneonta for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off with the Red Dragons.
