ELMIRA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior defenseman Matt Solomon scored a goal but it was host Elmira scoring five unanswered goals through two periods of play to earn the 5-1 victory over the No. 4/8 Knights, Saturday.

Elmira (8-5-0) scored the lone goal of the first period, as Carter Shinkaruk found the net with 3:47 on the clock. 

The Soaring Eagles broke the game open with four goals in the second period, including two power-play goals by Shinkaruk for the hat-trick.

Solomon scored off assists from first-year forward Anthony Marra and junior forward Stephen Collins with 3:04 left in regulation as Geneseo (8-3-2) avoided the shutout.

First-year goalie Devin McDonald was credited with 14 saves in 40 minutes of play to take the loss, while senior Matt Leon totaled eight saves in the third period.

The Knights look to snap their two-game skid on Tuesday opposite host Neumann at 7:00 p.m.
