Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard John Decker scored 14 points to lead the Knights but it was visiting Oneonta taking the 76-65 victory in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Friday night.
Junior guard Justin Ringen had 13 points and nine rebounds while senior forward Nick Fessenden added 10 points and nine rebounds in the setback.
At 14:40 in the first half, sophomore guard Connor Keenan scored from beyond the arc to give the hosts an early two-point lead, 9-7. Trailing 20-17 at 10:05, Geneseo went on an 8-0 run, which included three lay-ups by Fessenden, to take a 25-20 lead at 8:17.
With 2:39 to play, sophomore forward Jordi Menkhorst made two free-throws to put the Knights up by eight, 36-28. The Red Dragons responded with an 11-2 run to take a one-point lead into halftime, 39-38. The run was capped by a three-pointer as time expired by sophomore guard Ian Schupp.
At 14:53, sophomore guard Kevin Crockett made a shot from long-range to give Geneseo the lead, 46-45. Following an 8-0 spurt by Oneonta to make it a 53-46 game at 12:58, Ringen completed a three-point play to bring the Knights within four, 53-49, at 12:17.
After a Decker lay-up cut the deficit to two, 59-57, with 8:03 left in the game, the Red Dragons (8-3, 3-1 SUNYAC) scored 13 of the next 17 points to go up by 11, 72-61, at 2:27. Geneseo came within seven with 1:29 on the clock but were held without a bucket for a remainder of the game.
The Knights (6-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) return to action tomorrow at home against New Paltz at 4 p.m.
