GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard Justin Ringen scored 23 points and sophomore guard Charlie Zaepfel added 15 points, eight assists and six rebounds but it was visiting Fredonia taking an 89-86 victory over the Knights in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Tuesday night.

Junior guard John Decker had 21 points off the bench while sophomore guard Kevin Crockett added 16 points in the setback.

The Blue Devils opened the game with a 16-5 run to take an 11-point lead with 16:32 on the clock. Geneseo responded with a 14-2 run to go up by one, 19-18, at 12:13. The spurt was capped by a Ringen lay-up.

Trailing 32-30 with 4:23 remaining in the half, Zaepfel made a lay-up to tie the game and spark a 9-2 run that gave the Knights a five-point edge, 39-34, at 2:51. Fredonia responded with a 9-2 run of its own to take a 43-41 advantage into halftime.

At 14:29 in the second half, Zaepfel made a jump shot to give Geneseo its largest lead of the game, 61-51. Following two free-throws by Ringen at 10:43 to make it a 67-60 game, the Blue Devils went on a 13-5 run to take a one-point lead, 73-72, at 6:49. 

Trailing by eight, 85-77, at 2:38, the Knights scored five-straight points to come within three, 85-82, with 1:41 left in the game. With 33 seconds to play, Ringen made a free-throw to make it 88-86, but Fredonia (2-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) recorded a free throw in its final possession and forced Geneseo into a contested three as time expired to secure the win.

The Knights (6-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) return to action this Friday at home opposite Oneonta for a match-up scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
