Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard John Decker scored 27 points while junior guard Justin Ringen added 22 points, but it was host Plattsburgh earning a 98-87 victory to snap the Knights' five-game winning-streak, Sunday.
Junior point guard Jack Eisenberg added five points as well as seven assists and only had one turnover in the setback for Geneseo (11-4, 5-3 SUNYAC).
"We allowed Plattsburgh to go on too many streaks that we couldn't stop," said head coach Steve Minton. "They also out-rebounded us pretty significantly. We needed to do a better job of being physical and bodying up."
Trailing, 8-3, at 17:30 of the first half, back-to-back three-pointers by Ringen and Decker capped a 12-2 run to put the Knights' up 15-10 with 16:01 on the clock. Plattsburgh battled back to retake a 23-19 edge, but Geneseo answered with a 21-11 run over the next 10 minutes to build its largest lead of the game, 40-32, with 5:46 left in the first half.
The Cardinals (13-3, 8-1 SUNYAC) bounced back again, pushing ahead by a point, 47-46, at halftime.
Trailing by five, 59-54, with 14:42 left in regulation, a lay-up by first-year forward Jack Manke finished a 9-3 Geneseo spurt to put the visitors up by a point, 63-62, with 12:56 on the clock.
The lead changed hands seven times over the next six minutes before Plattsburgh used a 9-0 run to turn a 72-70 deficit at 7:16 into a 79-72 lead at 4:24 it would not relinquish.
A pair of Decker free-throws got the Knights within five, 79-74, at 4:10, but Plattsburgh led by as many as 11 down the stretch to earn the win.
The Cardinals finished the afternoon with a 47-29 advantage in rebounds
Geneseo returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Cortland at 7:30 p.m.
