Hamilton, N.Y. - Junior Marylen Santos was victorious in both her singles and doubles matches, leading the Geneseo women's tennis team to a 6-3 win at Hamilton on Sunday. The Knights, ranked 19th in the ITA Northeast Region, captured two doubles matches and four singles matches in the win.
Santos teamed with senior Minxuan Yuan for the victory at number-one doubles. The number-three team of junior Mai Hashimoto and first-year Anika Pornpitaksuk provided the Knights with the crucial second point in doubles with their 9-8 (4) triumph.
Geneseo (13-3) took the top-four matches in the singles. Along with Santos' win at number-one, junior Cat Crummey (number-two), senior Amanda Rosati (number-three) and senior Dexuan Yuan (number-four) captured their matches. All were straight-set wins, except for Rosati's. She came back to win the second set to knot the match, before prevailing 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
The recently-paired doubles teams of Hashimoto/Pornpitaksuk and Santos/M. Yuan have both captured two of their last three matches in Geneseo's matchups against top regional teams Rochester, NYU and Hamilton.
The Knights will visit RIT on Friday, April 17 for a match against the Tigers.
