Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team went on the road and defeated Hartwick 6-1, avenging last season's Empire 8 championship loss to the Hawks and improving to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
Geneseo took the doubles point despite dropping the first flight. Hartwick won 6-1 at first doubles, but Samantha Rava and Rachel Molloy answered with a 6-1 win at second doubles, and Lauren Levatino and Talia Wutz clinched the point with a 6-1 win at third doubles.
The Knights kept rolling in singles, winning five of six flights. Hartwick's lone point came at first singles, where the Hawks won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. From there, Geneseo took over. Samantha Rava battled back at second singles, dropping the first set before winning a third-set tiebreak, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6). Rachel Molloy won in straight sets at third singles, 6-2, 6-3. JoAnn Catalano needed a tiebreak of her own at fourth singles, winning the first set 7-6 (2) before closing out a 6-0Â second set. Lauren Levatino cruised at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Talia Wutz completed a near-shutout at sixth singles, winning 6-0, 6-1.
The Knights have now won nine straight to open the season, with six of those wins coming in Empire 8 play. Geneseo will return to action on Tuesday to host Brockport for senior day.
