Brockport (13-11-2) senior goalie Aaron Green was credited with 59 saves to preserve the victory as Geneseo out-shot the visitors, 63-23, on the evening.
The Golden Eagles advance to the tournament semifinals to take on top-seeded Plattsburgh on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., while the Knights close the season with a 12-10-4 mark.
Brockport built a 3-1 lead before the first intermission. Junior forward Chase Nieuwendyk opened the scoring at 14:44 of the first period after out-skating the Knights' defense and beating Geneseo senior goalie Nick Horrigan with a nice fake.
Five minutes later, Horrigan appeared to make a pad save on junior forward Jesse Facchini's shot from the right wing, but the puck trickled through to the left post where first-year forward Aidan Verbeke stuffed home the goal at 9:40.
Geneseo got on the board with 2:55 on the clock after Scharfe jammed a shot from the left side of the crease past Green, but the Golden Eagles responded 15 seconds later as junior defenseman Chris Luker scored on a shot from the left face-off circle to give the visitors the two-goal first-period cushion.
Brockport increased its lead to 5-2 by the end of the second period. Sophomore forward Jake Taylor intercepted a pass deep in the Geneseo zone and fed senior forward Troy Polino, who slid a low shot past a defenseless Horrigan at 13:15.
Geneseo first-year forward Sotiris Athanasopoulos took a nice feed from behind the Brockport net from senior forward Tyler Brickler and converted a shot from in the low slot at 9:32. However, Brockport created another turnover behind the Geneseo net as Verbeke stripped a Knight's defenseman and fed a wide-open Shapiro in front to make it a 5-2 game with 6:23 on the clock.
In the third period, Geneseo scored two unanswered goals to pull within one, 5-4. Junior centerman AJ Sgaraglio scored on the left side of the crease after a nice feed from sophomore forward Jack Ceglarski at 14:55. Later, despite being a man down following a tripping call on the Knights, Stanimir intercepted a misplayed puck by Green behind the net and beat the Golden Eagle goalie to the front of the open net to score with 5:19 left in regulation.
Brockport was able to stave off the Geneseo bid for the equalizer in the final minutes, including a 6-on-4 opportunity for the Knights following a Golden Eagle penalty with Horrigan pulled. Junior forward Jeremy DeFazio broke free for an empty-net tally with 48 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Horrigan finished his final collegiate game with 22 saves.
