Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Gordon Lyons totaled 27 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists for his 20th double-double of the season to lead the Knights over visiting Oneonta, 87-67, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball, Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward James McKenna had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists while senior guard Andy Drescher added 18 points and four rebounds in the win. Lyons, McKenna and Drescher joined forward Devon Anderson and guard Connor Rogers in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony as Anderson and Rogers each had eight points on the day.
At the 14:28 mark, Lyons made a lay-up to give the hosts an early 10-5 lead. With 12:13 on the clock, McKenna converted a fast-break lay-up off an assist from Drescher to put Geneseo up, 18-11.
Leading 20-16 at 9:52, the Knights went on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 38-18 advantage with 4:29 remaining in the first half. Lyons and Drescher each contributed six points to the run.
With just over a minute left, sophomore guard Jack Eisenberg made a jumper to make it 44-27 as Geneseo entered halftime with a 46-32 lead.
The Red Dragons (11-12, 8-8 SUNYAC) hit back-to-back threes on their first two possessions of the second half to make it a 48-38 game at 18:51.
With 15:36 on the clock, the Knights went up 61-44 after back-to-back buckets from long range by McKenna. Just over two minutes later, Lyons hit a lay-up to give the team a 19-point edge, 67-48.
At 8:51, junior guard Kevin Zabransky completed a three-point play to bring the score to 76-54. Drescher made two-free throws in the following minute to give Geneseo its largest lead of the game, 80-56, as the team shot 50.8% from the field en route to its fifth-straight victory.
The Knights (14-8, 10-5 SUNYAC) are set to play their final home game of the regular season this Tuesday against Oswego at 5:30 p.m in Schrader Gymnasium.
