Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Trevor Hills scored three goals for his second hat-trick of the season to lead the No. 9/10 Knights back from a 3-0 second-period deficit and a 5-3 victory over visiting Nazareth, Friday. The victory was Geneseo's eighth in their last nine outings to close the semester.
Trailing 3-0 less than four minutes into the second period, the Knights (8-1-2) went on to score three power-play goals in just over a nine-minute span, including two by Hills, to tie the game, 3-3, heading into the final period. First-year forward Arthur Gordon scored what proved to be the game-winning tally 36 seconds into the third, before Hills netted a third late to seal the victory.
Nazareth (2-2-4) sophomore forward Oliver Janzen scored from close range off a short pass from the point in with 8:48 on the first-period clocke before senior forward Rocky Gruttadauria finished a short shot inside a wide-open left post 3:18 later to put the visitors up, 2-0, after 20 minutes of play.
Janzen collected a loose puck off the pads of Geneseo first-year goalie Devin McDonald during a rush and stuffed a shot inside the right post to make it a 3-0 lead with 16:44 to play in the second, forcing a Knights timeout.
Following a Golden Flyer interference penalty at 11:11, Knights' junior forward Stephen Collins took a feed from sophomore defenseman Pat Condon on the left crease and scored on a shot into the upper right corner of the Nazareth net to start the comeback with 10:15 on the clock.
Hills cashed in assists from Collins and Condon on back-to-back power-play opportunities during a 1:41 span to tie the game, 3-3, with 2:05 left in the second period. Condon hit Collins with a pass down the left wing before Collins shuffled a pass across the ice to set up a Hills one-timer at 3:46 before the duo set up Hills for the equalizer on a shot from the slot to set up the decisive third period.
Less than a minute into the final period, junior forward Connor Anthoine sent a pass from the left boards behind the net to senior forward David Ripple, who slid a pass into the slot to Gordon for a goal inside the left post with 19:24 on the clock.
With the final two minutes ticking down, senior defender Nate Brown brought the puck up the left wing and hit junior forward Jack Ceglarski with a pass at the red line. Ceglarski centered the puck into the Nazareth zone ahead of a streaking Hills, who was just able to stretch out and tip a shot between Golden Flyer senior goalie Ed Zdolshek's pads for his first hat-trick since notching three goals and two assists in a 7-4 win over visiting Canton (Nov. 6) earlier this season.
McDonald finished the night with 23 saves to improve to 8-0-1 on the season. Zdolshek compiled 35 saves as Geneseo finished the game with a 40-26 advantage in shots.
Geneseo is off until the second weekend of January when they play back-to-back road games opposite Hobart (Jan. 8) and Elmira (Jan. 9).
