GLASSBORO, N.J. - SUNY Geneseo senior Winny Chen had a 20th-place finish to lead the Knights to ninth place out of 24 teams at Rowan University's Border Battle, Saturday afternoon.
"The top seven did not run today and stayed back to train through the weekend but the athletes that did race really mixed it up to showcase their fitness," said head coach Dan Moore. "They ran against some great competition to show where they stand amongst the elite in the region. Today was a great test and I am very excited for SUNYACs in two weeks."
Geneseo tallied 220 points to come in ninth as RPI took the crown with 85 points and Dickinson (108), Rochester (110), Haverford (130) and Cortland (147) rounded out the top-five teams.
Chen completed the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:06.69 to take 20th while senior Jacquie Huben captured 25th place (22:10.95).
Junior Ashley Peppriell came in 38th (22.26.06) and first-year Brooke Madry finished in 65th (22:48.41). Senior Rayanne Luke took 74th (23:02.47), followed by senior Sarah Anstett in 77th (23:09.53) and first-year Allison Fernandez in 82nd (23:16.74) to round out the Knights' top-seven runners.
In the six-kilometer open race, senior Shannon Murphy finished first with a personal-best time of 23:00.56 while sophomore Madelyn Schwartz was close behind in fifth (23:20.02).
Geneseo returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, hosted by Plattsburgh.
