Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard Andy Drescher scored a game-high 22 points while senior forward Gordon Lyons added 20 points and 11 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season to lead the Knight past Potsdam, 82-70, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball, Saturday.
Lyons moved into fourth-place on the Geneseo career scoring list with 1,418 points, surpassing Ian Tudman '95 (1,410), while his 900 career rebounds make him only the second player in program history to achieve the milestone.
Potsdam scored the first four points of the game but the Knights responded with a 9-0 run, capped by a lay-up by sophomore guard Jack Eisenberg at 13:47.
Geneseo held on to its five-point lead until the final five minute of the half. Trailing 18-13 with 8:46 on the clock, Potsdam used a 14-9 spurt to tie the game, 27-27, at 5:28 before building an eight point lead, 44-36 at 1:30. Geneseo scored the final four points of the half to make it a 44-40 deficit at intermission.
Drescher started the second half converting a three-point play and hitting a lay-up to put Geneseo on top, 45-44. The lead changed hands three times before Potsdam broke a 50-50 tied with five-unanswered points to lead, 55-50, at 14:26. Geneseo returned the favor with a 9-0 run, capped by a Drescher three-pointer, to re-take a 59-55 with 8:56 to play in regulation.
Potsdam pulled within one-point three times down the stretch, including 69-68, with 3:11 to go, but back-to-back three pointers by sophomore guard Connor Keenan and Drescher completed a 8-0 run that gave Geneseo a 77-68 edge with 1:32 left in regulation. Potsdam hit its final field goal at 1:12, before the Knights converted five of six free throws to close the game en route to the 12-point win.
Geneseo returns to action on Friday, hosting Brockport at 5:30 p.m.
