Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior guard Andy Drescher scored a team-high 18 points while senior forward Gordon Lyons added 14 points and nine rebounds, but it was host New Paltz earning the 75-62 victory over the Knights, Saturday afternoon, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action.
Geneseo (6-4, 2-1 SUNYAC) was held to 5-of-27 shooting in the first half as New Paltz (6-6, 4-1 SUNYAC) jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead en route to a 31-20 halftime edge.
In the second half, the Hawks built their largest lead, 49-35, at the 12:30 mark, but an 11-2 run, including nine points by Lyons, pulled the Knights within five, 51-46, at 7:39.
New Paltz re-took a double-digit lead, 62-51, with 4:15 remaining in regulation, before converting 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory and hand the Knights their first conference loss of the season.
Lyons finished one rebound short of his 12th-straight double-double, dating back to the SUNYAC Tournament semifinals a season ago.
Geneseo will open the home portion of its SUNYAC schedule Tuesday night, hosting Cortland at 5:30 p.m.
