Fredonia, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo juniors Marylen Santos and Cat Crummey remained unbeaten in team matches both as a doubles pairing and as the Knights' top two singles players, leading the squad to a 9-0 win over Fredonia on Wednesday. The Knights moved to 4-0 in the SUNYAC and 5-0 on the season and clinched the top seed in the SUNYAC Western Division for the conference tournament next month.
"The players came away with a measure of respect for Fredonia," said Coach Jim Chen. "They played and competed well. Nevertheless, the scores reflect the depth and strength of our team."
Senior Amanda Rosati and sophomore Karli Hollins also captured two matches each. They remained undefeated in team matches at number-two doubles and added singles wins at number-three (Rosati) and number-five (Hollins). Senior Minxuan Yuan and sophomore Maggie Hale improved their record as a doubles pairing to 4-0 with their victory at number-three.
Senior Dexuan Yuan (number-four singles) and junior Mai Hashimoto (number-six singles) claimed their matches, with both remaining undefeated in all singles competition on the season.
The Knights will take part in the Canton (N.Y.) Classic this Saturday and Sunday. Hamilton College and Rochester will be in the field along with Geneseo and host St. Lawrence. There will be eight singles flights and four doubles flights and each singles player/doubles team will play all three opponents in their respective flights. On Saturday, the Knights will be playing eight singles matches against Hamilton; eight singles matches against Rochester; and four doubles matches against St. Lawrence. On Sunday, the Knights will contest their singles matches against St. Lawrence; doubles matches against Rochester; and doubles matches against Hamilton. Winners in each bracket will be determined by records within the round robin; no team scores will be kept.
