Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Jaisen Clark capitalized on a penalty shot to help lead the Knights to a 2-0 victory opposite Susquehanna on the final day of the Drew Fall Festival Tournament, Saturday.
"Today, we didn't miss a beat. We came out onto the field and dictated play," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We were fortunate with the penalty kick call, which helped us get going offensively. Defensively, we had a really strong weekend and limited the teams' opportunities. Our back four and defensive midfielders played really well today and I am very pleased with how we played this opening weekend."
Like last night's match against Drew (N.J.), both teams remained scoreless entering the half and were only able to string together a total of six shots, four of which came from the Knights. It wasn't until the 55th minute that Susquehanna committed a foul in the penalty box and Clark recorded his first goal of the season.
Geneseo put the game out of reach for the Crusaders with a goal during the 87th minute of competition. Sophomore midfielder Matt D'Amico headed the ball into the back right of the net off a baseline cross from senior midfielder, Connor Beisner.
"I wanted us to get another goal to continue building our confidence. It was definitely a well deserved score by [Matt] D'Amico," said Oliveri.
Junior goalkeeper Logan Calvey played a complete game and collected three saves as the team recorded eight shots to Susquehanna's three.
The Knights will have their first home match of the season when Clarkson comes to town Friday (Sept. 5) at 4:00 p.m. followed by a visit from St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
