Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior forward Tyler Brickler was one of three SUNY Geneseo players with a goal and an assist to lead No. 11 Knights to a 5-3 victory at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey play, Friday night.

Senior forward Ryan Stanimir and sophomore centerman Jack Ceglarski were each also credited with a goal and an assist while junior goalie Nick Horrigan was credited with 33 saves to earn the victory for Geneseo (3-2, 3-2 SUNYAC). Geneseo scored on three of seven power play opportunities in the win.

Geneseo struck twice in a 22-second span to take the early lead. The Knights went on the power play at 13:43 following a checking-from-behind call on the Golden Eagles before Brickler cashed in a pass from junior winger David Ripple at 13:21. Junior defenseman Nate Brown would then score his first goal of the season at the 12:59 for the two-goal edge.

Brockport got on the board late in the period thanks to a pair of Geneseo penalties that put the Golden Eagles in a 5-on-3 advantage. Chris Luker made the Knights pay with a goal with 1:46 remaining in the period to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, heading into the first intermission.

Geneseo out-shot Brockport, 15-0, to start the second, but it was the Golden Eagles evening the score, 2-2, as Troy Polino found the net with the team's first shot of the period with 13:42 on the clock.

Geneseo re-took the lead on a power-play goal by Stanimir off a back-door pass from Ripple with 8:49 on the clock heading into the third period.

The Knights pulled away in the final period, starting with a 5-on-3 opportunity seven minutes into the period. Senior defenseman Jack Caradonna cleaned up scrum in front of the Brockport net to make it 4-2 with 13:08 to play.

Geneseo gave Brockport a 5-on-3 attempt with 8:23 following two penalties, including a delay of game call on Horrigan. Chase Nieuwendyk collected a rebound and scored to once again make it a one-goal game, 4-3, with 6:46 remaining in regulation.

Geneseo held Brockport at bay down the stretch as Ceglarski scored on an empty net with four seconds remaining to put the game away.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Franklin Pierce for a 3:00 p.m. matinee at Wilson Ice Arena.
