BROCKPORT, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Cassie Goodman finished first out of 118 runners to lead the Knights to first place out of 10 teams and win the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, Saturday, hosted by Brockport. The title was Geneseo's 14th in 15 years and fourth-straight.
Geneseo compiled a winning score of 19 points to best second-place Oneonta (72), Cortland (80), New Paltz (132) and Brockport (145) to round out the top-five team scores.
Goodman covered the 6-kilometer course in 21:58 to lead six Geneseo runners in the top-10. Sophomore Marissa Bellusci finished third (22:29.9), followed by senior Joanna Castrogivanni (22:32.9) in fourth. Junior Jacquie Huben placed fifth (22:39.4) followed by Alyssa Knott in sixth (22:43.8) to round out the top-five runners.
Junior Ashton Hughes was close behind in eighth place (22:46.6) while first-year Kristen Homeyer closed out the Knights' first seven runners in 11th (22:53.2).
Goodman is the 12th Geneseo runner to win the SUNYAC individual championship. It is also the second year in a row a Knight crossed the finish line first as Keira Wood took top-honors in 2013.
Geneseo now has 14 total SUNYAC Championships in the 31-year history of the race, trailing Cortland by two.
The Knights will next run in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals in two weeks (Nov. 15), hosted by the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park.
