Box Score ASHTON, Pa. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Carson Schell scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third period to lead the No. 13/14 Knights to a 3-2 victory over host Neumann, Thursday night.
"We played a great bounce-back game after a tough loss last Saturday," said head coach Chris Schultz. "We were able to establish our forechecking early and it helped create some solid scoring chances. Defensively, we limited them to a minimal number of shots which was important, especially in the third period."
Geneseo (11-3-0) jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period on tallies by sophomore winger Ryan Donnelly in the ninth minute and first-year defenseman Matt Lee in the 18th minute. Neumann scored the only goal of the second stanza in the fifth minute to cut the Geneseo lead in half heading into the final period.
Following almost 19 minutes of scoreless hockey, Schell found the net off an assist from Zach Martin with 1:08 to play in the game to make it a 3-1 edge for the visitors. Neumann would find the net with 16 seconds left on the clock to pull within a goal, but Geneseo would finish the night on top for the win.
Junior goalkeeper Bryan Haude was only called upon to make 14 saves to pick up his eighth win of the season.
Geneseo will finish off the double-dip with Neumann on Friday night with a 5:30 p.m. faceoff.
