No. 12/14 Ice Hockey Shuts Out Buffalo State, 3-0

Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore winger A.J. Sgaraglio scored a goal in his third straight game to lead the No. 12/14 Knights to a 3-0 victory at Buffalo State, Friday night.

Junior goalkeeper Bryan Haude only had to make 11 saves to preserve his fourth career shutout, while the Knights (7-2, 6-1 SUNYAC) out-shot the Bengals (4-3-3, 3-3-2 SUNYAC), 23-11, to pick up their third-straight victory.

"I thought we played with a lot of energy tonight, especially in the first period," said head coach Chris Schultz. "We were relentless on the forecheck and we did a phenomenal job in the neutral zone. Our penalty kill was outstanding, stopping all eight of their power play opportunities."

Sophomore winger David Ripple got the Knights on the board with just over a minute to play in the first period off assists from junior winger Justin Scharfe and senior centerman Jonathan Sucese as the Knights took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Senior winger Zachary Vit scored the lone goal of the second half on the power play after his shot from the point made it through traffic in front of the net and into the cage in the 16th minute. First-year Jack Ceglarski and junior defenseman Jack Caradonna were credited with assists.

In the third period, Sgaraglio finished off a Knights' break in the 13th minute, netting a short pass from the left side off the stick of sophomore linemate Brent Bisdee from close range eight minutes into the period.

The victory was the Knights' first at Buffalo State since a 2-1 win on Feb. 6, 2010.

Geneseo, which moved up to No. 12 in this week's d3hockey.com poll and No. 14 in the USCHO.com poll, returns to action tomorrow night, traveling to Fredonia for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff with the Blue Devils.
