NYU Claims NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Championship

Complete Team/Individual Results

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. - New York University ran to the 2013 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Championship, Saturday afternoon, at the Highbanks Recreation Area of Letchworth State Park, hosted by SUNY Geneseo.

RPI senior Grace Tilton bested the 269-runner field to win the individual championship (21:07.0), breaking the 6-kilometer course record time she previously set last month during the Geneseo Invitational (Oct. 5) by over 40 seconds.

NYU compiled a winning score of 97 points to edge four-time defending champion St. Lawrence (103), along with The College of New Jersey (148), Geneseo (149) and Oneonta (177) and the rest of the 38-team field.

Four NYU runners finished in the top-20, led by junior Emily Cousens who logged her second-straight Atlantic Regional top-10 finish in ninth place (21:40.8) after running to ninth last year. Violet sophomore Lily Corsaro crossed the finish line in 14th (21:48.1), followed by back-to-back finishers sophomore Sarah Czuprynski in 17th (22:00.8) and junior Hannah Borenstein in 18th (22:01.1). Freshman Kassi Chrysanthopulos rounded out the NYU five in 39th place (22:43.6).

Senior defending individual champion Amy Cymerman notched a third-place effort (21:21.0) to lead St. Lawrence, while classmate Ariel Beccia finished in 12th place (21:44.7). Freshman Lisa Grohn and junior Anne Martino finished with the same time (22:03.6) to garner 21st and 22nd place, respectively. Senior Toria Koutras completed the Saints scoring-five in 47th (22:48.6).

The College of New Jersey edged the host Knights by one point for third place, led by senior Megan Flynn's 13th-place effort (21:45.4). Geneseo junior Cassie Goodman improved on a 20th-place effort from 2012 to lead the Knights in 15th (21:57.6).

With their top-two finishes, NYU and St. Lawrence earned automatic berths to next week's NCAA Division III Championships in Hanover, Ind. Sixteen other team at-large bids will be awared across the nation's eight total regions, while the top-seven individual finishers from today's race not on one of the team qualifiers will also qualify for the national championship.
