Box Score Geneseo, N.Y. – Geneseo senior forward Ryan Yurchak scored what would have been the tying goal in the men's soccer game against Potsdam on Friday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, yet the goal was taken away for an offsides violation, causing the Knights to ultimately lose 1-0 to the Potsdam Bears.
"We played well early on, and had many scoring opportunities," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "After that, it was somewhat disappointing."
After a scoreless first half, the Bears took the lead when Potsdam junior forward Alex Minsker served a corner kick into the box where Potsdam junior midfielder Conor Engle was able to connect, heading the ball into the upper left corner in the 53rd minute of play.
Ten minutes later, Geneseo senior back Pat Lynch placed a free kick in the center of the box, connecting with Yurchak who shot the ball low and into the net. The Knights' celebration was short-lived however. Yurchak was called on an offsides violation, and the goal was taken away.
The Knights outshot Potsdam 18-11, and Geneseo sophomore goalkeeper Logan Calvey earned seven saves for the game.
On Saturday, the Knights will face Plattsburgh at Saratoga Field at 1:00 p.m. in the final SUNYAC match of the regular season. A win would clinch a berth in the SUNYAC Tournametn for the Knights.
