GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team kept rolling, earning its fourth straight win with a 2-1 victory over Alfred University. Eric Carnes delivered a first-half equalizer before Jace DiPalo netted the game-winner in the second half to push the Knights to 6-2 in conference play and 9-4-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Alfred opened the scoring with 14 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Knights answered two minutes later. After Feranc Bagi drew a foul just outside the box, Eric Carnes curled a free kick around the wall and into the top-left corner to even the score before halftime.
- Geneseo found the breakthrough in the 73rd minute when Jace DiPalo hammered home a one-timer past the Saxon goalkeeper. Aidan Lodie and Carnes were credited with assists on the go-ahead goal.
- With the Knights clinging to a one-goal lead, Max Crothall came up with a diving save in the closing minutes to keep Alfred off the board. Owen Burke nearly put the game away with a breakaway chance in the final minute, but the Saxon goalkeeper made the stop. Geneseo held firm to secure its fourth consecutive victory.
