GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team picked up a four-set win in its home opener on Tuesday, topping SUNY Morrisville 3-1 at Carl Schrader Gymnasium to improve to 4-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo opened the match with a quick 5-2Â run behind Sophie Hunter and a string of Morrisville errors, and after the visitors clawed back to tie it at 12, the Knights answered with a late push from Kate Barba and Brooke Borkowski to build a 19-14Â cushion. Morrisville trimmed it to 21-20Â late, but Geneseo closed out the set 25-21.
- The second set featured a swing in momentum. Morrisville reeled off five straight points - four of them service aces - to jump ahead 10-6, but Geneseo answered with its own run behind Zooey Gagnier and Ellie McLennan to pull back in front. The set stayed tight down the stretch before an ace by Gagnier closed it out 25-22.
- Geneseo traded points with Morrisville through the middle of the third set, but the visitors pulled ahead for good in the final stretch, closing on a 24-20 and 25-20 finish to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- Trailing early in the fourth set, the Knights ripped off a run fueled by Barba's kills to take the lead for good, then closed the match with back-to-back service aces from Gagnier that pushed the margin to double digits en route to a 25-17 win.
