Men's Lacrosse Falls to St. John Fisher 12-10

ROCHESTER, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team came up short against St. John Fisher, falling 12-10 against the Cardinals. The Knights move to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The teams traded goals in the first, with Fisher taking a 2-0 lead over the Knights in the opening minutes of the game. Aksel Stanat got it rolling for Geneseo with a goal at 11:36, followed by another from Owen Ellick at 7:49 to tie the game 2-2, but the Cardinals were able to add one of their own to end the quarter.
  • Ian Leahey tallied Geneseo's only goal in the second, sending the Knights into halftime trailing 5-3.
  • Geneseo came out hot in the third, with Leahey (2), Ellick and Ryan Trebing putting up four unanswered goals to take a 7-5 lead. The Cardinals managed to tie it 8-8 with 37 seconds left, but Jacob Pensabene found Ronnie Trebing wide open in front of the net to take the secure the lead at the end of the third.
  • The Knights were unable to match the momentum of Fisher in the final quarter, only adding one goal while the Cardinals tallied four more, falling 12-10.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Ian Leahey led the Knights with five goals, marking a career high for the junior.
  • Josh Knapp had three caused turnovers, totaling 18 this season.
  • Aidan Crane picked up five ground balls against the Cardinals.
