ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team was unable to pull off a furious fourth-quarter comeback at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday evening, falling 32-19. The Knights dip to 1-1 on the season, after picking up a win in the program's first contest earlier this week against D'Youville.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights defense held strong early, limiting Roberts to just 14 yards on their opening two drives, however, the Redhawks were able to break through later in the quarter and take a 7-0 lead after the opening period.
- Roberts Wesleyan was able to add to its lead before halftime, going ahead 19-0 as they were able to keep the Knights offense out of the end zone.
- Facing an uphill battle in the final quarter, Geneseo's offense came alive and got their comeback attempt going. A 17-play 66 yard td drive was capped off by a 29-yard touchdown pass from Ella Koopman to Josie Daniels. Following a quick defensive stop, Koopman scored again for the Knights, this time with a 5-yard touchdown run. Geneseo's offensive flurry was capped off by a touchdown pass from Koopman to Abigail Uhrich in the closing minutes.
QUICK FACTS:
- Koopman threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another. Koopman now has five passing touchdowns and two rushing through two games.
