Softball Drops A Pair At Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team faced the University of Rochester on Monday afternoon and dropped game one 8-0, followed by a 10-2 loss in game two. The Knights now hold a 9-6 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo struggled offensively in game one, only managing two hits from Lauren Babich and Alyssa Siegmann. The Knights had opportunities with runners in scoring position in the third and fourth innings but were unable to capitalize. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on eight hits to shut out Geneseo.
  • Rochester jumped to an early 4-0 lead in game two, scoring two runs in both the first and second innings. Geneseo got on the board in the fourth, as Babich led off with a single through the left side. Gabriella Smith followed with a single to center, allowing Babich to score on a throw-down from the catcher. Lauren Bieniek then drew a walk and stole second before Jane Reilly came in as a pinch runner. Reilly scored shortly after on a single to center from Gabriella Petroski, cutting the deficit to 4-2 by the end of the top half of the inning.
  • However, the Yellow Jackets exploded in the fifth inning, scoring six runs to extend their lead and take a 10-2 win over Geneseo.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Babich went 2-for-5 on the day with a pair of singles and a run scored.
  • Petroski picked up her third RBI of the season in game two.
