Flag Football Falls At Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team couldn't make it back-to-back conference wins to open up Empire 8 play, falling at Hartwick on Saturday afternoon by a score of 20-13. Trailing 12-0 at half, the Knights came back with 13 unanswered points, but the Hawks were able to escape with a late touchdown as Geneseo moves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams were locked in a defensive battle for the first 15 minutes, with the score tied at 0-0 through the first quarter of action. Hartwick was first to break through offensively, then capitalized on an interception to make it 12-0.
  • With the second quarter coming to a close, the Hawks were threatening to extend the lead with third and goal, but an interception from Emily McLouth helped Geneseo stay within striking distance at the half.
  • The Knights offense got on the board in the third quarter, with a drive highlighted by a 44-yard pass to Kenna MacKenzie from Ella Koopman. Koopman went on to find Corina Dunn for a five-yard touchdown to cap off the drive and make it 12-6.
  • Geneseo kept the momentum going in the fourth quarter, as Koopman found Dunn once again for a touchdown, and then converted the one-point attempt to take a 13-12 lead.
  • Hartwick was able to answer late in the fourth quarter and go ahead 20-13, and the Knights final attempt to tie the game late was stopped as the Hawks escaped with the win.
